Introduction
I am currently working on how we can reimagine maps interfaces to better respond to natural real world movements and the interface can directly reference and adapt based on the real world context of where we are right now.
I believe your devices should intelligently adapt depending on the context - whether you’re at a bus stop, train station, shopping mall, cafe or at work, and that maps interfaces are the closest we get to this relationship between physical and digital spaces.
I am also looking at how we can create more playful dynamic interfaces that completely transform depending on the utility needed as defined by your current location.
In the Studio
This project is still in active and ongoing development in the studio. New stuff is coming, and this is just the beginning.
Projects in the studio are not finished products, and will contain unfinished components, mistakes and placeholders - but I wanted to share them anyway, so you can get an early look.
A unified view for getting from A to B, complete with fares, changes and alternatives, all from the get go
Transparent, approachable information about fares and available transport options
Introduction
I'm a huge fan of public transport, and believe the best experience for people is a mix of public and private infrastructure, supported by a delightful user interface that's clear from go to arrival. I'm reimagining how we can design this experience, to be more functional, and more fun too - let's pull in colours, joy and big bold directions.
These are some ideas for a more connected experience that's consistent across all TfL services, and integrates with all the ways you move throughout the city.
Big, bright signposting and symbols across physical and digital environments
Navigation
Navigating London is still far from seamless. Experiences like quickly checking Tube, Bus and Tram routes could be much more streamlined, with clear turn-by-turn directions, instant travelcard and Oyster top ups, and transparent fares, all in one place.
Support for Apple Watch unlocks easier travel directions, with easy walking and transport guidance, quick overviews of nearby transport and ultra fast access to departure information and gates.

Highlights
Transparency in pricing and changes across routes, without requiring the user to tap into them to find out, makes comparing routes faster and straight forward
Simplicity in the UI enhances really useful points of functionality, like your card number and active zones on your travelcard
Buses
Buses are key to helping people get around however for visitors and on unfamiliar routes, it can be difficult to find the right stop and right bus, at the right time. I wanted to improve this experience through clearer nearby bus information and new capabilities.
Support for Apple Watch unlocks clearer, much faster real-time data on bus stops and bus routes, with on-device route maps and bus numbers, and real-time delays and diversions data, on your wrist.

An intelligent sensing experience where nearby elements grow and highlight, to support a potential user intent is the future of navigation
Better supporting tourists and deaf users on TfL buses through visual alerts, as well as audio, is a benefit for everyone
Cycles
Santander Cycles are a healthy, speedy alternative to travelling by car, taxi or bus. They're available all over Zone 1, and can be a much quicker commute alternative. However, they're a long way off the unlock and go vision that was intended, so I wanted to envision a much nicer experience with them.
Support for Apple Watch unlocks faster docking and undocking experiences, and allows cyclists to leave the house without their iPhone, and unlock and go using just their Cellular Apple Watch.

Trains
Trains are a vital method of transport both nationally and in the capital, yet the experience for booking one feels confusing all on one pane. By bringing modality, clear live tracking, directions to your seat booking and fun features like live travel updates, the train experience can be so much better.
Support for Apple Watch introduces instant platform information, train departure and arrival alerts, route lookups and convenient directions to your train booking seat.

Real-World Elements
I am referencing real world elements like bus signposts, traffic lights, road work signs, tube graphics and others to pull in real world elements into interfaces to help with inherent understanding of functions that used to be done traditionally with the goal of helping us to better coexist between digital and physical spaces.
I believe there is a need for human first, better considered, more universally understandable systems and frameworks across public transport and services, and private spaces and commerce.
Real-world elements help with onboarding and navigation, by reducing alien components
Transparency with pricing saves users time
Bolder Bus Stop information and clear bus info drives quick discovery
New City information helps you with navigation, laws and customs when you're travelling to new cities and countries
